Efforts to restore Peregrine Falcons into the New River Gorge date back to 1987 when, over a 4 year period, 30 birds were hacked out into the gorge.
In 1990, the emphasis shifted to studying the results of this effort, and after subsequent years it became apparent that fewer and fewer birds were returning, another effort has now begun.

These images are updated every five minutes. Upper left: This is the view straight down on the box along side the feeding tube. All birds are now out and tooling around. The feeding tray is where we place food for them. Upper right: A side view of the box allowing us to assess the situation. All birds had left the box by noon on June 9. By 4 o'clock vultures had snuck in and cleaned up all the food scraps. Had you been on line then, you would have seen them poking around. Excellent room service here. |
